SURAT, Nov 1: The Surat District Legal Services Authority Board, the Surat District Bar Association and the Lions Club of Surat (North) have organised a Legal Education Services Week and a Lok Adalat in the second week of November.The week will be organised from November 8 to November 14 at Lions Community Hall, Lalji Nagar, Adajan Road, while the Lok Adalat will be held on the last day at the district court's premises in Athwalines.
District judge A M Kureshi will inaugurate the week, while District Collector R M Shah, Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan and Police Commissioner Maniram will speak at the inauguration. Legislations governing atrocities on women, dowry, alimony, child labour, child marriage, labour laws, workers' compensation will feature in the workshops and seminars that will be held till the end of the week.
Organisers have appealed workers, citizens, especially women to attend the programmes and benefit from the week-long education on legal affairs governing their lives.
The lok adalat will take up cases of loans given by various branches of Bank of Baroda. The bank has decided to take a considerate view of the mounting interest against it's defaulters.
It will also tackle cases of illegal margin construction and compound walls involving Surat Municipal Corporation. Cases related to house rent and illegal occupation being tried at the Small Causes Court, motor accident claims against Oriental Insurance Company will also be taken up at the adalat to be held at the district court premises.
