Manpreet and Aujla elected

CHANDIGARH, Nov 1: Manpreet Singh Badal was unanimously elected president of the Amateur Circle Kabaddi Federation of India in the general body meeting of the association held at Punjab Bhawan here today. He will hold this post for the remaining unexpired period of two years. Badal has replaced Joginder Singh Gill who was appointed working president on the proposal of ACKI secretary general J P Sharma in the general body meeting held on January 7, 1998 at the Sector 17 Football Stadium.

The federation has also prepared a budget of Rs 12.5 lakh for 1998-99. According to the estimated expenditure Rs eight lakh would be spent on participation in the International Circle Kabaddi tournaments in Pakistan, Canada and United Kingdom. A sum of Rs 50,000 has been earmarked as subscription to the World Kabaddi Federation and Asian Circle Kabaddi Federation while Rs two lakh would be spent on attending the World and Asian federations meetings in different countries.

The other expenses proposed to be met are: Rs 20,000 for printing and stationery; Rs 10,000 for conveyance and travelling; Rs 60,000 for telephone; Rs 20,000 for entertainment and Rs 70,000 for miscellaneous accounts. The main income will come from sponsorship (Rs 5 lakh), display of banners (Rs 2 lakh), souvenir advertisements (Rs 5 lakh). The house approved the budget.

After the election, Manpreet Badal disclosed that the 13th Senior National Circle Kabaddi championship would be held at Badal in Feburary. The fourth Federation Cup has been allotted to Maharashtra. Badal also said that `mega corporations' would be approached to sponsor the federation activities and recognition issue with the Centre Government would be taken up.

Meanwhile, P S Aujla was elected president of the Punjab Circle Kabaddi Association against the vacant post.

TT tourney
The 11th Chandigarh state table tennis tournament would be held at Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall from November 5 to 8, according to a press release, competition will be conducted in senior, junior (under-17), sub-junior (under-14) and cadet (under-12) boys and girls singles groups. Team championship will also be held in senior and junior groups. Apart from singles, mixed doubles event will also be held.

Entries closes on November 3, with Rajiv Kaushal (coach) at the venue.

Participants in junior, sub-junior and cadet groups should bring date of birth certificate.
