NEW DELHI, November 4: Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj today accused the Congress of launching a smear campaign against her personally to tarnish her image before the elections. At a press conference this afternoon, Swaraj said: ``The Congress could not find any fault with (my work) as Union minister or before. So now they are fabricating facts to tarnish my image.'' Swaraj appealed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to get her party ``not to indulge in a personal attack and to fight political battles on issues of governance and performance''.
Swaraj went on: ``It is a coincidence that both the BJP and the Congress have woman at the head of their respective campaigns. I appeal to Sonia not to allow the denigration of the image of an woman politician. It is detrimental to the political growth of the country,'' she said. ``The fact is I have never met Romesh Sharma. I have never seen his face. And my husband (Swaraj Kaushal) was never his lawyer,'' Swaraj said emphatically, reacting to allegations that have been made by a section of the media.
The CM saw a Congress hand behind the salt issue as well. ``It is a game being played by the Congress to create panic. There is enough supply of salt for the next three years,'' she said.
