French co plans $ 1 bn project

NEW DELHI, Nov 5: French multinational Gaz de France has submitted a proposal to the government for a $ 1 billion mega power project in Gujarat using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. ``We propose to set up a 2,500 mw LNG power project in Gujarat and are talking to another French major Alstom to act as a joint venture partner for the same,'' Jacques Gautier, assistant vice president of Gaz de France, told PTI.The French company made the proposal to Union power minister P R Kumaramangalam at Houston (US) during the World Energy Council meeting, he said. ``This is part of our diversification strategy in India,'' Gautier said.
