Karnataka squeeze past Tamil Nadu

TIRUNELVELI, NOV 5: Despite being curtailed to 192 in 39 overs, Karnataka pulled off a dramatic 36-run win over Tamil Nadu in the One-day match for T Subbiah Pillai Trophy at India Cements Ground today.

Left-hander Hemang K Badani's (48: 50b, 2x6, 1x4) stand of 43 with T Kumaran (30 not out) for ninth wicket went in vain. Tamil Nadu were tottering at 102 for eight when Hemang and Kumaran raised hopes, slogging 31 runs in three overs.

J Arun Kumar ran up his second successive half century. Before falling for 63 (64b, 14x4, 1x6), he put on 83 runs for the third wicket with Vijay Bharadwaj (47: 59b, 2x4).

Brief scores: Karnataka 192-8 in 39 overs (J Arun Kumar 63, Vijay R Bharadwaj 47) bt Tamil Nadu 150 in 34.2 overs (Hemang Badani 48, T Kumaran not out 30; D Ganesh 2-18, Mansoor Ali Khan 3-16, B Akhil 3-30)

Andhra drub Goa

PANJIM: Andhra scored an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Goa in the Ranji One-dayer for Subbaiah Pillai Trophy at Campal here today.Andhra's bid to gain maximumpoints from this fixture began in a fruitful way as the medium pacers bowled their heart out to bundle out the hosts for 81 in 31.5 overs.

N Madhukar, who was selected to play against West Indies A team, picked up three wickets, but was erratic, conceding 15 wides.

Brief scores: Goa (in 31.5 overs) 81 (N Madhukar 3-31, Madhusudan Raju 2-13) lost to Andhra (in 16.1 overs) 85-2.

Hyderabad beat Kerala

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad registered an 18-run victory over Kerala in the One-day South Zone match.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 219 in 50 overs (MV Sridhar 47, Vanka Pratap 61, Arvins Shetty 31; P Manoj 3-47, Ananthpadmanabhan 2-35) bt Kerala 201 in 49.3 overs (Harikrishna 41, Ananthapadmanabhan 42, Ram Prakash 38; VP Raju 3-30).

Orissa bundled out

AGARTALA: Tripura were 77 for four in reply to Orissa's 168 all out in the first innings on the opening day of the three-day East Zone match at the Narshinggarh Ground.

Brief scores: Orissa 168 in 56 overs (Shiv Sunder Das 53, R Pafida 29, RMorris 27; T Chandra 3-47, A Sukla 2-31, S Choudhury 4-33) vs Tripura 77-4 (S Satpathy 3-17).
