Fire in Shastri Bhavan room

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, November 5: Documents and files were destroyed in a fire in room number 314 of the Human Resource Development Ministry this morning. The police have ruled out foul play and the extent of damage is being assessed. The smoke alarm went off at around 11 am and the staff of Joint Secretary Education (Planning) noticed smoke billowing out of his room. Joint Secretary Champak Chatterjee was not in the room when the fire broke and no injuries have been reported.

The fire department took about half-an-hour to bring the fire under control, after which housekeeping took over, mopping all the water from the flooded third-floor corridor. The police say, the cause of the fire was most probably a short-circuit, which they attribute to the heavy load in the building.
