Lara, Hooper pay the price, sacked from Windies team
The West Indies Cricket Board on Thursday fired Brian Lara as captain and Carl Hooper as his deputy, taking a tough stand against a revolt by players about fees for an imminent three-month tour of South Africa.

Anand emerges clear champion
Indian Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand logged 7.5 points from 11 rounds and emerged as the clear winner at the Fontys-Tilburg International Grandmasters Chess Tournament. In the final round, Anand drew with Peter Svidler, who with Garry Kasparov and Vladimir Kramnik had finished joint first here last year.

Australia down Spain
Australia moved closer to a place in the final of the 20th Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament yesterday with a 3-1 victory over Spain. In another match, South Korea held Germany to a 3-3 draw.
