CHANDIGARH, Nov 6: "Theatre is all about one family, the family called humanity. Whether of any country or language, theatrical elements are common for they are the reflections of human emotions.'' H S Dilgir's statements could not have found a better expression than at the Indira Holiday Home where theatre artists from five countries assembled along with their Indian comrades-in-art for the nine-day Second Global Youth Theatre Workshop and Festival.Kudos to the Chandigarh Institute of Performing Arts (CIPA) for this effort at international integration through dance and theatre. So you had delegates from Hungary, Scotland, Czech Republic, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria learning the vibrant steps of bhangra from Balkar Sidhu this evening after the workshop got off to an active start in the morning. On the faculty for the workshop, besides Dilgir and Sidhu, there are Suchitra Mitra for classical dance, G S Khalsa for Gatka and Urmil Kumar Thapliyal, P D Verma and R S Soni from Lucknow for theatre. Prahlad Aggarwal and Sukhbinder Kaur are assigned the task of meditation and yoga respectively.
The nine-day-long workshop will come to an end on the 15 with a performance at Tagore Theatre. The workshop, besides the theatrical forms and dances, will see group discussions and lessons in exchange.
