2 held for 15 cases of murder, dacoity

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, November 6: The Special Cell of the Delhi Police says it has busted a gang of criminals with the arrest of Akhil Javed alias Prince and Mursalin alias Sajjad. According to the police, the men were involved in over 15 cases of robbery, dacoity, murder and attempts to murder.

The police got a tip off indicating that a gang of western Uttar Pradesh robbers was frequenting the Trans-Yamuna area and their hideout was at Sunlight Colony in Seemapuri. Around 6.10 p.m. on November 3, the police arrested the men after an informer pointed out a Maruti (no. Dl-2CB-1381) on the road leading to Sunlight Colony. Two country-made pistols and five live cartridges of .315 calibre were recovered from the accused. Cases have been registered against them under the Arms Act at the Seemapuri Police Station.

During interrogation, Javed and Mursalin reportedly revealed that on October 27 they, along with two Sunlight Colony residents Shakeel and Rahimuddin, stole Rs 2.65 lakh, a cellular phone and jewellery from the house of one Shamma Parveen and then murdered her. They apparently said that the robbery was committed at the instance of Shakkel, who knew the woman.

The police say that the accused also disclosed that they tried to molest Parveen and when her friend Shalvinder protested, Javed shot him in the head.

The gang allegedly robbed a Dilshad Garden professor of cash and jewellery worth Rs 75,000 at knife-point in broad daylight. In another incident, they reportedly forced their way into the Shahdara home of one Bimla Kapoor on Diwali day and robbed her of cash, jewellery and a cellular phone.
