PHNOM PENH: Cambodia marked the 45th anniversary of its independence from France on Monday amid a protracted post-election crisis that has paralysed the troubled nation. Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk, 76, who negotiated the country's break from French rule in 1953 as a young monarch, led a short ceremony before only a few hundred onlookers at the independence monument in Phnom Penh. Noticeably absent were strongman Hun Sen and top members of his de facto-ruling party.Co-premier Hun Sen and opposition leaders Prince Norodom Ranariddh and Sam Rainsy remain locked in a bitter political struggle that has sent tensions soaring and frozen much-needed foreign economic aid. ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan's Taliban movement on Monday challenged the United States to prove by November 20 that Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden was a terrorist. The Taliban's supreme court told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) news agency that if no proof was submitted by the deadline, he would be deemed innocent of all charges ofterrorism. ``We will wait until November 20. If anyone has any proof he is involved in terrorism, it should be submitted by then.'' The supreme court statement said that if no proof of his alleged involvement in terrorism was received by November 20, ``on this basis we will say he is clear.''
