Uphill task for Himachal, AP rout Goa

New Delhi, Nov 9: In the space of 12 overs today, Delhi's medium-pacer Robin Singh and left-arm spinner Rahul Sanghvi dashed Himachal Pradesh's hopes of putting up a good reply to the host's first innings total. From a reasonable 84 for two in reply to Delhi's 339 for six declared, the visitors crashed to 111 all out in their first effort.

Robin (5-35) and Sanghvi (5-12) shared the spoils on the penultimate day of the North Zone Ranji Trophy league match at the Kotla here. Following on 228 runs behind, Himachal made a better start, putting on 52 without loss at close.

Brief scores: Delhi 339-6 declared (M Manhas 66, Akash Malhotra 49, Vijay Dahiya not out 64; Parveen 3-103) vs Himachal 111 (Robin Singh 5-35, Sanghvi 5-12) and 52-0.

Punjab on top

NEW DELHI: Punjab promptly took a first innings lead and declared their innings 116 runs ahead in an effort to force an outright win on the third day of their North Zone tie against Services at the Palam Ground.

Brief scores: Services178 and 13-1 in 8.1 overs vs Punjab 294-5 declared in 82.1 overs (V Rathore 75, R Sodhi 71, NS Sidhu 56, D Mongia 72, JP Pandey 3-72).

Ghare scores ton

NEW DELHI: Yogesh Ghare struck 147 to help Vidarbha declare their innings at 378 for seven in their first innings on the third day of their Central Zone match.

In reply, Railways were 23 for none at close.

Brief scores: Vidarbha 378-7 declared (P Sutane 88, Y Ghare 147, U Gani 48; Zakir Hussain 2-51, Murali Kartik 2-112, Prahlad Rawat 2-39) vs Railways 23-0.

UP on course

JAIPUR: Uttar Pradesh were 221 for five at close of play in reply to Rajasthan's first innings score of 338 on the third day of their four-day match. Resuming at the overnight 19 for no loss, the visitors coasted along with half-centuries from Mohammad Kaif (51) and Jyoti Yadav (55).

Brief scores: Rajasthan 338 and Uttar Pradesh 221-5 (Mohammad Kaif 51, Jyoti Yadav 55, Rizwan Shamshad 40, G Pandey not out 49).

TN-Karnataka draw

TIRUNELVELI:A fine unbeaten knock of 56 by wicket-keeper TR Arasu and his 73-run eighth-wicket partnership with Vasanth Saravanan helped Tamil Nadu draw their match against Ranji champions Karnataka on the concluding day of the South Zone match. Both the teams gained three points each from the match.

Brief scores: Karnataka 439 vs Tamil Nadu 225-8 (TR Arasu 56 not out, Hemang K Badani 44, Vasant Saravanan 30, S Sriram 32)

AP triumph

PANAJI: A fine spell of five for 79 by H Ramkishen paved the way for Andhra Pradesh to carve out a 165-run win against Goa on the fourth and final day of the truncated South Zone match. Play resumed late after lunch today as the outfield was wet. Goa, who were 66 for three overnight, were all out for 171 in 84.4 overs in their second knock.

Brief scores: Andhra Pradesh 216 and 206-7 declared bt Goa 86 and 171 (Balkrishna Misquin 59, Rajesh Naik 29; H Ramkishen 5-79).
