AI receives 457 VRS applications

MUMBAI, Nov 9: With nine days still to go for the last date of applying to the two cost-cutting schemes formulated by the AI management to reduce its ballooning wage bill, t.he management is satisfied with the response the schemes have generated so far. The personnel department has received 457 applications filed by employees from various departments for both the schemes, which offer a two-year leave, extendable by another five years, and a unique three-day a week scheme at 60 per cent of the gross salary. The schemes, aimed to trim the wage bill amounting to Rs 875 crore, were announced by the airline in September.

``We have received 291 applications seeking to avail of the two-year leave option, and 166 applications opting for the three-day week scheme,'' said an AI official spokesman.
