Dualism is the right of Communists: Surjeet

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Nov 9: CPM General Secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet on Sunday said that his party would continue to fight the Congress in Kerala and West Bengal even while extending issue-based support to Congress at the national level in the event of the fall of Bharatiya Janata Party Government.Surjeet told mediapersons here that there was no confusion over extending issue-based support to Congress as the 16th party congress in Calcutta had unanimously identified BJP as the main enemy. He said that support would be extended to non-BJP parties for seats where CPM was not in a position to fight on its own.

On CTBT, Surjeet said that the principal policy of the country was not to sign CTBT. However, if BJP decided to go against this it would amount to sacrificing the country's right to take a decision on the issue. ``Pakistan was waiting for an opportunity to see us commit to CTBT'', he said.He said that the BJP Government which began with a bang on `swadeshi' slogan had now relaxed its policysuccumbing to pressure by foreign countries and multi-national companies.

Surjeet came down heavily on BJP and Sangh Parivar for what he termed their ``planned attack'' on the minorities, particularly Christians, in various parts of the country. He accused BJP of attempting to distort history by introducing chapters on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders in school curricula.

Referring to Kerala, the CPM leader said that there was no crisis in the party. Though there have been some problems, the party was capable of solving these, he said.

Surjeet said that the new CPM politburo would be constituted by mid-December.
