CHENNAI, Nov 9: Former Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary J Jayalalitha has challenged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to stand trial in respect of the corruption charges levelled against him in the Sarkaria Commission report. In a statement today, Jayalalitha, who is herself facing corruption charges, said it was the Karunanidhi Government that was dismissed on the basis of corruption charges in 1976.
However, when an AIADMK member of Parliament was made the Union Law Minister, Karunanidhi had, ``without any compunction'', declared it was an attempt by AIADMK leaders to free themselves from cases filed against them. ``We have great respect for the judges and the judicial system in the country. That is the reason for our going to the courts of law for justice,'' she said.
