VMC is anti-poor: MLA

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Nov 9: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Waghodia Madhu Shrivastav lambasted the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) for allegedly singling out poor people in the demolition drive. He has demanded action against about 20 complexes on the Waghodia Road which are in the margin and have violated building bye-laws.

Shrivastav, who came with a large number of supporters to the VMC on Monday, submitted the list of 20 complexes to Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria. When contacted Aloria said: ``the list will be examined on merit and action will be initiated.''

The MLA's outburst comes a couple of days after the VMC demolished an unauthorised construction in Pratapnagar. Shrivastav had went to the site and made the operation to stop half-way alleging that the demolition was being done at the behest of some vested interests. Aloria said he had come to know about the matter at a latter stage but added that the construction was unauthorised and was falling in the margin area.

Shrivastav told reporters that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister. Soon I would submit the list of unauthorised constructions to the CM, he said, adding that poor should not be targetted when ``the wealthy builders were being excused for the irregularities''. About the list of buildings submitted, he said in some of them shops had come up in the parking slots.

``If required I am ready to quit politics but will not tolerate injustice to the poor,'' the MLA said, adding that the VMC should not demolish unauthorised constructions unless constructions on the roads are cleared.
