16 SMC doctors transferred
In a major reshuffle, Surat Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan transferred 16 doctors and 12 clerk-cum-compounding officers, 12 first grade clerks, 37 second grade clerks on Monday. Fifteen employees of the octroi department were also transferred.

Christians meet
All missionaries working in the diocese of Vadodara met in Surat to take stock of the attacks on missionaries in Gujarat, particularly in South Gujarat. The meeting, presided over by the Vadodara Bishop Rev Godfey Rosario, saw exchanges relating to their activities and the reason behind the opposition. Some felt that though the missionaries have done commendable job in serving the poor, they had failed to keep the media informed of their activities. More than 100 priests and nuns from Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Bharuch, Dangs, Vadodara and Panchmahal district attended the meeting.

Felicitation
Sportsmen, who have won games at the national and international level, will be felicitated on December 18 after the inauguration of SMC's indoor stadium. Standing committee chairman Ajay Choksi said among others, the inauguration -- by Union Home Minister L K Advani -- would be attended by Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana. While the entry will be free on the first day of the four-day function, the SMC plans to sell tickets for the remaining three days. Choksi said talks with pop singer Daler Mahendi, Asha Bhosle, Sonu Nigamm, among others were on to made the event memorable. The inauguration will be telecast live.

Seminar
A seminar on `Atrocities on Women, Rape, Dowry and Alimony' will be held on Tuesday at the Blind school, on the Ghod Dod road, at 6 pm. The seminar is part of the ongoing Legal Education Service Week, being observed by the District Service Legal Authority and the Lions Club, Surat.
