Cong parleying bears fruit
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, November 9: The last two days of hectic parleying by senior Congress leaders with rebel candidates have finally borne fruit. A large number of these candidates today withdrew their candidatures. Dissatisfied with the allocation of tickets, around 25 Congress workers had filed their nominations from different constituencies. Delhi leaders, including Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler, R.K. Dhawan, Meira Aggarwal and Jai Prakash Aggarwal were entrusted the task of bringing them back to the fold. Those who did not give in to the cajoling will now face the threat of expulsion.Among those who have withdrawn their names are Rajan Makkar from Rajouri Garden, Harcharan Singh Josh from Sadar and Ganga Sahib Bhairava from Ram Nagar. From Tilak Nagar, all three rebel candidates -- Dinesh Jain, Jaspal Singh and Radhe Shyam have withdrawn their candidatures. The Samajwadi Party candidate from Tilak Nagar, Rajesh Sharma has also withdrawn in favour of the Congress, claimed DPCC office-bearers. Two candidates have also withdrawn from the Hauz Khas constituency, where a complete novice Dr Kiran Walia of the Congress is standing against Sushma Swaraj. These two women candidates are Vinita Azad and Amar K. Dinesh. Others who have withdrawn are Puran Mal Goel from the Trinagar constituency, Haji Mante from Karawal Nagar, Shriram Maggo from Moti Nagar and Pritam Singh Badana from Timarpur.
