CHANDIGARH, Nov 9: Chandigarh schools badminton girls team not only did their City proud but also the country by hosting the national flag high in the first Badminton Cup tournament held at Flanders (Belgium) from November 2 to 6. The team comprising Mala Gaba, Isha and Parnita gave a sterling performance to bag gold medal in the team event.In the individual event Mala Gaba defeated Nadia Hadak of France to win first position. In the doubles the pair of Parnita and Isha, however, were pushed to second spot by Bekkers and Nijs of Belgium.
The team was cleared by the Ministry of Sports at no-cost basis and the players had to bear the entire expenditure.
The team was accompanied by Surinder Mahajan (badminton coach).
