CHENNAI, NOV 11: A fresh case has been filed against Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) chairman P V Bhoopathy by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), this time for alleged fabrication of documents.According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the CBI in the 10th Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Bhoopathy allegedly fabricated documents in support of his contention in the assets case which the CBI is investigating, sources told The Indian Express. The CBI had, in April 1996, seized documents of properties, jewels and cash investments worth about Rs 41 lakh following which a case was registered against Bhoopathy for alleged possession of assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
According to the FIR, the NLC chairman had created partial partition deeds, projecting as if a corpus fund has been created by gifts received from relatives, using stamp papers. Bhoopathy has been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 465 (creating false documents), 468(forged documents for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged documents as genuine documents), and 193 (misleading public servants).
The CBI has also included as accused Bhoopathy's wife, two sons, father-in-law, mother-in-law and two stamp vendors. The case came to light when Bhoopathy submitted his explanation in the first case relating to `disproportionate' assets found in his house during the 1996 raids.
