NEW DELHI, Nov 11: With an eye on the substantial Uttarakhandi population staying in Delhi, the BJP-led Government today reiterated that it would table the Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in the forthcoming winter session of Parliament.Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana, while addressing reporters this afternoon, announced that the Government would simultaneously introduce the bills seeking to create the states of Chattisgarh and Vananchal as also the legislation granting full statehood to Delhi.
The three-week-long session, which commences on November 30, is likely to end on December 23. But the Union Minister could not satisfactorily reply whether the Government would actually be in a position to table the Uttaranchal bill if the three-member committee appointed to decide the fate of Udham Singh Nagar district failed to submit its report before the commencement of the session.
All he could say was that the committee, headed by Defence Minister George Fernandes, had a timeboundschedule. Khurana also announced that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee would convene another round of all-party meeting to evolve a consensus on the Women's Reservation bill. For the record, the Constitution (84th Amendment) bill has also been included in the list of business.
It includes, apart from these bills, the Lok Pal bill, the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Amendment bill, the Central Vigilance Commission (Amendment) bill, the Companies (Amendment) bill, the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Repeal bill, the Trade Unions (Amendment) bill and the Information Technology bill.
The Prasar Bharati and the CVC amendment bills will replace the ordinances issued earlier by the Government.
