Onion prices continue to slide

NASHIK, NOV 11: The downward trend in the wholesale prices of onions continued at the Lasalgaon marketyard with the average price on Wednesday being Rs 1,450 per quintal. The average price exactly a week ago, on November 4, was Rs 2,500 per quintal.

The market received over 2,500 quintals of the crop on Wednesday. Prices ranged from Rs 225 to Rs 1,831 per quintal, depending on the size and quality of the onions.

Prices started falling over the week from Rs 2,500 per quintal to Rs 1,851 per quintal on Monday, on an average. The arrivals have also gone up from 1,500-1,800 quintals daily, to 2,500 quintals today. The prices had peaked to Rs 4,000 per quintal on October 23.
