PANAJI, NOV 11: Faced with the prospect of staying in jail for three months, a private car manufacturer quickly cleared the dues of customers and dealers pending for several years.According to police, R K Sipani, Managing Director of Sipani Motors Limited, Bangalore, who was arrested by the Goa police on October 30 in Karnataka paid up nearly Rs 4 lakh to 16 persons here.
Sipani was arrested on the orders of the Consumers Disputes Redressal Forum following a complaint filed by one Antoni Vaz. The complainant alleged that he had booked a car from the company by paying an advance of Rs 19,000 in 1991. But, he said, he received neither the car nor his money. When Sipani failed to respond to the Forum's notices, the case was decided in his absence. He was arrested at his factory near Bangalore.
