HYDERABAD, Nov 11: Three records tumbled on the opening day of the 10th Inter-Zonal Junior National Athletics Meet at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here today.While two of them were struck down by athletes belonging to Andhra Pradesh, but representing South in this meet, Bennet K Raja and S Geetha, the other was eclipsed by Sushmita Singha Rai of East Zone.
Raja leaped to a distance of 7.68 metres in the boys under-20 section long jump event and in the process erased the old mark of 7.53m which stood in the name of Sanjay Kumar of Delhi set in 1996 in Pune.
Then promising Geetha, who represented India in the last Asian junior meet, breezed home in 100 metres in style in the girls under-18 category. She won in 12.2 seconds to go past Poonam Belliappa's old record of 12.31 seconds.
The third record went to Sushmita Singha Rai. The East Zone girl scaled to a new height of 1.61 metres in the under-16 high jump event. The old record of 1.60m was in the name of Lucky Deshmukh of Kerala.
