MUMBAI, November 11: The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) will hold a two-day workshop on `Medical Colleges in Maharashtra: Problems and Solutions' on November 14. The workshop, the first of its kind in the state, will thrash out problems faced by medical colleges in the state, said MMC vice-president Sudhir Dongaonkar at a press conference recently.Around 125 delegates, including deans of all medical colleges in the state, vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors, teachers, student representatives and MCI members, are expected to attend the workshop. Six sessions have been planned to discuss the problems of teachers, students and managements as well as the grey areas in examination and clinical work, and around 70 problem areas have been identified, said Dongaonkar.
Problems relating to hiring and transfer policies for teachers, internship problems of students, recognition for colleges and availability of patients will also be discussed. The MMC has its own woes, according to Dongaonkar, and thisincludes the lack of power to take decisions on their own.
``Standardisation of education is required,'' he said, adding that a grading system should be brought in for medical colleges, rating the availability of equipment and teachers in every institution.
An MMC bulletin, MMC News, which will cover problems faced by medicos, will also be released at the workshop, to be inaugurated by Daulatrao Aher, State Health Minister.
