SURAT, Nov 11: South Gujarat University-affiliated colleges, which are located in the city and Olpad and Amroli areas, will hold students elections on November 28. The decision was taken by college principals, who met at M T B Arts College on Monday. Elections will be held for the posts of college general secretary, class representatives and ladies' representatives.The decision has been taken in view of incidents of violence between groups of students during last year's students' councils elections.
The colleges that will go to polls on November 28 include: M T B Arts College, P T Science College, K P Commerce College, Vadia Women's Arts and Commerce College, S P B English Medium College of Commerce; all located in Athwalines area, C K Peethawala College of Commerce, Navyug Arts College, Navyug Science College; all located in Rander, Olpad Arts and Commerce College, Olpad, Akhandananda Arts and Commerce College, Ved Road, C D Barfiwala Commerce College on Sumul Dairy Road and Dharukawala College in Varachha.
Last elections had witnessed sporadic violence in Akhandananda, Barfiwala and K P Commerce colleges. Authorities have decided to ask for adequate police protection to ward off untoward incidents during this round of elections. The meeting stressed on the need for proper screening of students at the gate to prevent entry to anti-social elements and outsiders.
