CHANDIGARH, Nov 11: Shivalik Public School-41 beat Guru Nanak Public School-36 by a margin of 2-1 to move into the final of the Chandigarh State Inter-School under-14 boys football tournament being played at Government Model Senior Secondary School-22.Both the teams were balanced. Attacks and counter-attacks followed but no team could gain the upper hand. Just before the end of the first half, SPS's Manish ran down the right flank and gave a cross to unmarked Harpreet Singh, who put it across the keeper (1-0).
In the second half, GNPS's Dashmesh made it 1-1 each while Sunny got the match-winner.
In another match, Rupinder's four goals including a hat-trick helped Govt Model Senior Secondary School-22 outplay Govt Senior Secondary School-15 by 6-1 to enter in the semifinal.
Rupinder scored two field goals in 22nd and 25th minute and converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute. Rupinder's fourth goal came in the 43th minute. Sharanpreet (20th) and Amandeep (40th) were the other marksmen for the winners.
Parveen got one for the losers in the 29th minute.
In another match, GMHS-28 blanked GMHS-29, 3-0. But the later lodged a protest against the former for fielding `outsider'.
The winner of the GMHS-29 and GMSS-22 match will face Shivalik Public School in the final to be played on November 13.
Road race on Nov 14 ST John's Old Boys Association (SJOBA) is organising a road race on November 14 at 3 p.m. According to Sandeep Singh, secretary, SJOBA, the race will be held in nine age groups over a distance of 9 kms.
The race will start from and finish at St John's High School in Sector 26.
Entries close on November 13 with Nike Showroom in Sector 17 and SCO 123 and 124 (Sector 17).
In the last edition of the event the entries were restricted to 600. However, this year the organisers have increased the entry to one thousand participants.
The competition would be held in under-14 and under-18 boys and girls sections. Men and women (18 to 40 yrs). The races in veteran category will be held in three sections -- 40 to 60 years, 60 to 75 years and above 75 years.
