Field day for Inderjit

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, November 11: Five goals each by Ashruf Ali and Inderjit Chadha marked a goal-glut in the two league matches of the Nehru hockey tournament for the clubs at the National Stadium here today.

In the first game, Bharti Club from Jabalpur thrashed United Hockey Club from Kamptee (Nagpur) 9-1 while in the second, Rock Rovers Club from Chandigarh defeated Metro Hockey Club from Bangalore 9-5.

In a one-sided match, the Jabalpur outfit toyed with their opponents from Kamptee and went on a goal-scoring spree from the 11th minute onwards, partcijarly after sizing up their rivals.

Ashruf Ali, who led the onslaught, with their forwards combining well and the flanks working in cohesion, however, missed a well-deserved hat-trick as Sanjeet and Nagarios scored in between his efforts. The Jabalpur team were sitting pretty with three goals before Fiyaz Khan of United Club pulled one back as the team went for a break.

But on return, it was the Jabalpur team all the way as they scored at will and every given opportunity. Ashruf Ali accounted for the first, thrird, fourth, seventh and eighth goals while Sanjeet, Ritesh Yadav, Nagarios and Naveen Yadav struck the other goals for the winners.

But Inderjit Chadha was lucky to complete a hat-trick. In fact, he achieved a five-in-a-row feat as he struck the team's second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and the ninth goals after Jaswinder Singh put the team in lead in the 11th minute. After Chadha's feat, Jasmeet Singh struck twice to complete the tally.

But the Karnataka team also played well to put up a good resistance. Nanda Kumar was the star of their performance with a hat-trick along with Anup Anthony, and Ronald Deepak scoring the other goals.
