Sabharwal steps down for Dikshit

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, November 11: Ramesh Sabharwal, the rebel Congress candidate from Gole Market constituency, has decided not to contest against the official Congress candidate, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Sheila Dikshit for the seat.

According to sources, the decision was taken early in the day today after hectic parleys between Sabharwal and the Congress party leaders, especially the president of the Indian Youth Congress, Manish Tewari.

``I am retiring from the contest to strengthen the hands of Sonia Gandhi, our beloved Congress president,'' said Sabharwal, in a press statement.

``I stand committed to the struggle for resolving the problems of the constituency, which I had nursed with my blood for the last 10 years,'' he said.
