Beauty bigwigs Search for the Femina Miss India 1999 has begun and last week The Taj, Mumbai, witnessed the selection of girls from the Western region. Participating in this preliminary selection round were 22 beauties from Pune from which 12 were shortlisted initially out of which two have made it to the Preliminary round of the actual contest to be held in January. The lucky two are Priya Gupta, who has and Renu Desai. In yet another nation wide search for beauty queen of the year, that is the Siyaram Star Miss India contest, it was the turn of the Pune contestants to showcase the stuff they are made of on the small screen on November 9. Nine hopefuls went through the rounds that included Emotional Quotient (EQ) testing and even an athletic competition. Finally the scales tilted in favour of Aarti, Parinaz and Neeta with it now being left to the viewers to send in their votes and rank the three girls in order of preference.Bach's baroque Alliance Francaise de Poona, the Indo-French Cultural Centre and Evian play host to a music concert in Pune. Cellist Jerome Pernoo will perform at the Pride Hotel on November 13, 7.30 p.m. onwards. Pernoo plans to play compositions from the repertoire of 18th century composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Winner of numerous awards, Pernoo plays the Carlo Guiseppe Testore cello, specially lent by the French Museum of Heritage Musical Instruments.
