Harbhajan sparkles in Punjab's win over Delhi

NEW DELHI, Nov 12: Gritty Punjab bowled out a strong Delhi batting line-up for less than 200 runs, to register a 36-run victory in the North-Zone one-day match at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground here today.

International Harbhajan Singh scalped two wickets in one over and helped in two run outs off his own bowling to reduce Delhi from 127-3 to 131-5 before the hosts succumbed to mounting pressure and were bowled out for 198.

Both Delhi and Punjab have five points from four matches.

Earlier, electing to bat, Punjab rode on fine knocks by Sandeep Sharma (69) and Pankaj Dharmani (95).

NEW DELHI: Services won their North Zone one-day match against Himachal Pradesh by 37 runs, thanks to a 84-run knock by wicketkeeper-batsman Sarabjit Singh and adevastating bowling performance by Sanjeev Mishra at Harbax Singh Stadium here today.

Gavaskar shines

CALCUTTA: Bengal, riding on a Rohan Gavaskar's 84 (3x4, 4x6) in 113 balls, defeated Bihar by two wickets in the East Zone one-day league match here at the Eden Gardens today. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Bihar scored 200 in 49 overs. Nikhil Ranjan was the top scorer with 81.

Bengal, in reply, achieved their target of 201 in 47.1 overs. The hosts were 38 for three when Rohan Gavaskar and Saba Karim got together for a 100-run partnership.

GUWAHATI: A fine spell by Debasish Mohanty helped Orissa upstage Assam by 45 runs in the East Zone one-day league match played at the Maligaon Railway Stadium today.

Brief Scores: Orissa 223-9 in 50 overs (Robin Morris 30, Sanjay Raul 47, Pravanjan Mallick 59; R Singh 3-13) bt Assam 178 in 48.2 overs (Parag Das 36, Iqbal Khan 35; Debashish Mohanty 2-33, S Satpathy 2-31) by 45 runs.
