Swashraya "Nyaypanch" on November 14
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Nov 12: In a bid to lend a voice to the cause of slum-dwellers against demolition of hutments, Swashraya, a city-based voluntary organisation working for the uplift of economically backwards, will organise a ``Nyaypanch'' on Saturday. Among those who are expected to form the ``Nyaypanch'' include Justice A P Ravani, retired chief justice of Rajasthan High Court; senior lawyer Haroobhai Mehta; writer Gitanjali Ganguli; high court lawyer Rani Advani and convener of Gujarat Forum for Women's Studies Amita Verma.According to organisation spokesperson, the slum-dwellers will narrate their experience when hutments were being demolished and the treatment meted out to them by the VMC officers. The Panch will also take stock of the present situation of slums and the alternative sites given by the government machinery. The ``Nyaypanch'' will be held at the Akhil Hind Mahila Parishad building, near Kirti Stambh between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. All our pleas to the authorities concerned to rehabilitate the evicted slum-dwellers had gone like water on duck's back, the spokesperson said.
