Health drive from Saturday
A team of 80 doctors will undertake health checks in 488 primary schools in the city. The health check programme, beginning November 14, will be carried out in two phases and will cover as many as 3.50 lakh students. While those suffering from minor diseases would be treated free-of-cost, those needing specialised treatment would be forwarded to the Maskati hospital. Similar health check-up programmes would also be carried out in rural areas.Sick units
All sick industrial units, which are not covered by the Sick Industrial Companies Act, and want to get financial aid should contact the district industry centre at A-6&7, Bahumali building, Nanpura, or the Industry Commissioner's office, Udyog Bhavan in Gandhinagar.
Demolition
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation will raze nearly 200 shops, houses and other commerical establishments, violating road alignment norms, between Alembic and Gorwa road on Friday. Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel told `Express Newsline' that while notices had been issued to all concerned, some people, including those from the Gujarat Housing Board, had voluntarily demolished their structures. He said the operation would begin early in the morning.
Poll observers
Senior Indian Administrative Services officers Ajit Kumar and Inder Raj Soni have been deputed as the election observers for Bharuch Lok Sabha by-election scheduled to be held on November 25. While Kumar would examine the expenditure on electioneering by the candidates and their respective parties, Soni would be the general election observer. Both the officers have arrived in Bharuch.
Appointed
A total 109 teachers selected under the State Government's `Vidyasahyak Yojna' for VMC-run schools were given appointment letters by Minister of State for Youth Services and Cultural Activities Minister Mahendra Trivedi on Thursday, according to Municipal School Board chairman Kishan Sheth.
Children's rally
Svades, a voluntary organisation working in the fields of education, sanitation and rural upliftment in over 40 villages in the Petrochemicals area, will conduct a children's rally on November 14 to mark Children's Day. The rally, comprising 600 participants from four primary schools, will chiefly focus on sanitation, plantation and children's rights.
School funfair
The Navrachana Higher Secondary School will organise a funfair on the Jyoti ground, Karelibaug on November 14 from 5 pm. The funfair will be open to all.
Bal mela
The Utkarsh Vidyalaya (English medium), Gotri Road, will organise a `Bal Mela' for its students in the school premises on November 14 from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm to celebrate Children's Day. The Bal Mela will include a Nehru corner, puppet show, pottery demonstration, sale of toys and books and various fun games.
Bhajan contest
An Open Baroda Patriotic Song and Bhajan competition for youth between 15 to 25 years of age will be organised by the Bhagwan Sri Satya Sai Seva Samiti as part of Satya Sai Baba's birthday celebrations.
