NASHIK, NOV 13: A 45-year-old tribal woman was allegedly raped by five persons near Vani on November 1. The police have registered a case of molestation. The incident took place around midnight on November 1, when the woman, working as a cook at Ambika hotel at the Saptashrungi Gadh, Vani, was returning home.The five accused -- Vijay Ramakant Dube, Ajay Ramakant Dube, Ayub Khatik, Raju Angathiwala and Breej Angathiwala -- who she said were in a liquor shop, allegedly forced her to drink some of the liquid. She became unconscious after which the five men allegedly raped her, she has alleged.
In the affidavit, filed before the sub-divisional magistrate on November 7, the woman, a widow, further stated that the next morning, she went to the Nanduri police outpost with her employer but the police refused to register her complaint. She alleged that the accused were ``known criminals'' and hence the cops refused to lodge a complaint.
Subsequently, she went to Abhona police station, but there was no oneavailable to lodge a complaint, she stated. She went back to Abhona police station on November 3, where a police officer lodged a complaint of molestation, despite her statement that she had been raped, she alleged.
The woman's employer, Sudhakar Dhamode, then spoke to the north Maharashtra chief of Janata Dal, Shantaram Chavan, who got her to file an affidavit. He submitted a memorandum to District Superintendent of Police Bhagwanrao More, demanding action against the erring police personnel and the arrest of the accused.
