Khurana not in star campaigners' list

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, November 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announced the names of its star campaigners for the November 25 Assembly elections -- the cinestars and the central party leaders. But one name was missing from the list.

While the party has tentatively finalised the names of the other star campaigners, Union Minister Madan Lal Khurana was not listed among the leaders who will campaign. The chairman of the BJP election campaign committee, Vijay Malhotra, said a host of party leaders including BJP president Kushabhau Thakre, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani would campaign for the party.

Advani, who was earlier scheduled to campaign for three days, will only campaign on November 16. Instead, Vajpayee is going to campaign for two days in Delhi -- November 18 and 23. The BJP in-house cinestar-turned-politicians Shatrughan Sinha and Vinod Khanna will campaign on November 21, 22 and 23.

The star campaigners list also includes the names of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Gopi Nath Munde and Pramod Mahajan.

When questioned about Khurana, Malhotra parried all questions about the `lapse' saying: ``Do I figure anywhere in the list?''He said that all party leaders would work as a team and win as a team, adding that Khurana had addressed a meeting of about 200 prominent Sikhs along with Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj's at her residence. According to Swaraj, however, Khurana is yet to get over his sulking and the Sahib Singh-Khurana standoff has been the most unfortunate thing to happen to the Delhi BJP.

Later in the day, BJP general secretary Venkaiah Naidu announced that both Khurana and Sahib Singh Verma will campaign with Sushma Swaraj, though no dates were mentioned.
