MUMBAI, November 17: Bharatiya Janata Party State President, B S Yediyurappa, on Tuesday anticipated that the squabbling within the Janata Dal in the state will reach a flash-point by the month-end.Addressing media persons here regarding the relief work being carried out in the rain and flood-affected areas of the state, he said that until the internal problems within the Janata Dal are resolved, development works too are likely to suffer.
He was referring to Chief Minister J H Patel's remarks to bureaucrats on Monday, when he had said that the party had been under the malevolent influence of the planet Saturn over the last month-and-a-half, but that their problems were now over. Contradicting that, Yediyurappa said that in fact, it was the people of the state who were facing ``Shani's wrath''.
Until the problems within the party are resolved, even the ministers will wish to remain silent on other issues and as a result, development works will suffer.
Instead of putting up with such asituation, if the Chief Minister had any respect for democracy, he should dissolve the Assembly, he said.
The Chief Minister too had accepted at Monday's meeting with Secretary-level bureaucrats, that work had come to a standstill. He had also reacted against the bureaucrats'lethargy of late, but the damage has already been done, the BJP leader said.
Meanwhile, he demanded a CBI inquiry into police excesses against the protesting farmers of the Bagur-Navile tunnel region and charged the Government with using the police to suppress the people's movement there.
He also announced that between November 20 and 25, he would lead a delegation of party office-bearers through the rain-affected districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary and Bijapur, to oversee the relief works there. The delegation would meet with the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of the district, as well as people affected by the havoc caused by the rain, to get a first-hand report of the situation there.
He urged the State Government toissue advertisements on the relief works undertaken in these parts and also suggested that Taluk-level committees be set up by the Government to oversee these works.
