Vilas Thakur killed his friend Anil Mahadev Patkar (35) at Nehru Nagar near Prabhadevi at around 1.30 am on Tuesday. After a bout of drinking till late night, the duo got into an argument over who would pay for the liquor, the police said.

When Patkar refused to pay on Thakur's insistence, the latter removed his waist-belt and repeatedly struck his drinking partner on his head. Patkar fell on a stone and died on the spot. Thakur has been arrested.

In a similar incident, Raj Shankar Kakde and Salim Rasool Sheikh together had liquor at Kudal Village in Dindoshi, Malad (east) when a dispute broke between the two.

According to the police, Sheikh wanted Kakde to pay up. When Kakde refused, he was struck with a carpenter's tool on his head. Kakde was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead around 2 this morning. Sheikh is still at large.
