AMRITSAR, Nov 17: Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh today made it clear that he would not take part in the government-sponsored celebrations and urged the government to release all the TADA detenus on the tri-centenary foundation of Khalsa to prove their sincerity towards the feelings of Sikhs. While talking to a select group of mediapersons at his residence, the Jathedar said that a parallal tri-centenary function would be organised under the aegis of Akal Takht, which would be purely religious in nature, and bereft of pomp and show. He said the function would be celebrated in association with various religious organisations, like the Gurmati Parchar Sidhant Sant Sabha and the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
The Akal Takht Jathedar asserted that the function proposed by the government was violative of many Sikh maryadas and was hence unacceptable to the Sikh sangat. Lashing out at Barjinder Singh Hamdard, he said how could a person, not an amritdhari himself, lead a Khalsa function. He alleged that there was not a single true Khalsa in the 24-member committee formed for the preparations for the function.
The Jathedar said the approval of Akal Takht was mandatory for raising the monument `Nishan-e-Khalsa', and in not doing that, the importance of Akal Takht had been belittled. He said that the organisers had sidelined the Takht in order to promote some people for their vested interests.
Bhai Ranjit Singh clarified that he would not take part in the stone-laying foundation ceremony at Anandpur Sahib. He said he had no talks with Captain Kanwaljit Singh on this and all the statements issued by him were concocted. He said instead of nihangs leading the procession, there would be PAP jawans on horseback as it was purely a government show, embarrassing for the Sikhs. He said a Khalsa march would be organised from December 4 to 6 from Anandpur Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup via Chamkaur Sahib. He also informed of organising Gurmati Samagam at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala andBathinda from January 1 to April 13, Baisakhi Day. He said a large procession would also be taken out from Akal Takht to Anandpur Sahib on April 11.
Baba Sarabjot Singh Bedi, president of Gurmati Parchar Sidhant Sant Sabha who was also present there to discuss the planning of functions with Bhai Ranjit Singh said it was shameful that the Akal Takht was not taken into confidence before making arrangements for a programme which belonged to the whole community.
