GANDHINAGAR, Nov 17: Senior BJP leader Prabodhkant Pandya has warned his own party government as well as Governor Anshuman Singh against ``politicising the education system in the State and hounding out academicians of national and international repute''.Pandya, a former minister of state for education, sounded this warning while condemning Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor S B Vora's dismissal, which he dubbed as ``unconstitutional and unprecedented in the history of the university''.
In an exclusive chat with Express Newsline today, he said Vora's unceremonious ouster had lowered the image and credibility of both the Keshubhai Patel Government and the Governor who is also the Chancellor of the university. ``If the victimisation of eminent academicians like Vora continues, the BJP Government will be doomed one day'', he cautioned.
Taking a dig at the Governor, Pandya alleged that it was at Raj Bhavan's instance that the BJP Government had issued orders sacking Vora and ``the government implemented Raj Bhavan's directive caring two hoots for the autonomous status of the university''. Raj Bhavan has become a ``political adda'', he charged.
Pandya also charged that the Governor being an outsider was not familiar with educational and cultural traditions and customs of the State and it was high time he stopped interfering in the functioning of the universities. ``Gujarat may witness a Nav Nirman-type agitation if the meddling in the university affairs continues by the government and the Governor'', he warned.
