Sachin police solve case of armed robbery

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Nov 17: With the arrest of seven people, the Sachin police solved a 10-day-old armed loot case that occurred in the Sachin area of the city. Seventy six bales of cotton cloth worth Rs 15.5 lakhs, a Maruti 800 car and two tempos used by the accused were also taken into custody, the police said.

Among those arrested include Nasirkhan Pathan, the main accused along with Salimmiya Shaikh, Faisal Mohammed Jigar, Farooq Mohammed Gulabmohammed Miya, Imtiaz Mansoori, Zuber Gulam Shaikh and one Jayanti Waghri.

All the accused have been remanded to police custody for a week after they were produced before a magistrate on Tuesday afternoon. PI B K Dodiya nad PSI B S Kadiwala are investigating into the case.

According to the police, the stolen goods belonged to one Vinodbhai, who owned a shop in the Salabatpura textile market. Vinodbhai is said to have gone bankrupt and owed a lot of money to weavers and others.

Taking advantage of the situation, the owner of Manish Travels at Udhna, Imtiaz Mansoori and Nasirkhan Pathan, along with others allegedly looted the cotton cloth consignment. While Mansoori had been arrested under PASA earlier, Pathan is a known extortionist and has a criminal record.

The accused also kidnapped one Dilip Bhanushali, the manager of Manish Travels, when he raised objection to the act, the police added. Bhanushali, who lodged a complaint on November 11, was left on the road near Navsari. All the accused were arrested from different parts of the city based on information provided by the complainant, the police said.
