Jain body calls for boycott of Salman Khan's films

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Nov 18: The city unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Jain Yuva Sangathan, a Jain organisation, has called for the boycott of all films starring Salman Khan, who was recently arrested for killing endangered species.

The boycott has been called for even as Salman Khan was slated to be present before a judge on Monday. In a letter to Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, the organisation, while criticising the killing, said it would continue with its agitation in the city.

In a statement, Sangathan office-bearers Nirav Shah and Sunil Shah said they would go to cinema houses running Salman Khan's movies and convince people not to watch them.

It may be mentioned that the city unit of the World Wildlife Fund has already staged demonstratioons outside cinema houses screening Salman Khan's films in the past month.

Besides, the organisation said it planned to hold protests in busy areas of the city like Bhagal, Chowk, among others, by distributing pamphlets criticising the killing of black bucks. They said theorganisation also planned to start a signature campaign to garner support in their resolve to boycott the actor's films.

In an appeal, they have asked people not only to boycott films starring Salman Khan, but also those films which have Satish Shah, Tabu, Neelam and other accused in the cast.

Stating that killing of animals should be made a non-bailable offence so that the accused could not get scot-free, they have demanded that the government immediately suspend or dismiss officials of the forest department or the armed forces, if found to be involved or encouraging hunting in the forests.
