VADODARA, Nov 18: In a demolition operation on Wednesday, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation razed an unauthorised compound wall from a 800 sq ft area near Harni Airport. But the event was not without controversy, as a section of residents, led by Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) councillor Geeta Desai, alleged that compound walls belonging to houses of a few other people, too, had been demolished to make way for another society.
The operation, which used a bulldozer, cutters and loader machines, was supervised by Bajrang Pardeshi, N J Chawda, K C Patel and C B Kaluskar.
According to sources, following a representation, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria is believed to have said that from now on, the staff would show maps of areas which are to be razed.
Meanwhile, the staff of administrative ward office 1 (A) Lehripura, under the leadership of the ward officer, recovered Rs 4,400 as fines from 24 people caught littering the streets. The VMC has appealed people not to litter the streets and help keep the city clean and green.
Committee Agenda: With a majority of the ruling BJP councillors busy with the Bharuch by-elections, the Standing Committee agenda was taken out on Wednesday instead of Monday, after which the meeting is held on Thursday.
The time, however, the meeting will be held on Saturday. And on the agenda are only three items, including the audit report between July 1 and September 30 and income and expenditure of July 1998.
These are the items which are normally passed without any discussion. After all, the Committee members have another `important' work to do!
