VADODARA, Nov 18: Employees of the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), who are protesting against the government's decision to shift headquarters from Vadodara to Gandhinagar, have objected to chairman G Subbarao's decision to release the first installment of payment for the Gandhinagar office. They see this as the move to shift the GEDA to the Capital.Raju Pandya, a leader of GEDA Pariwar, told Express Newsline that they came to know on Wednesday that the chairman had issued instructions for payment of Rs 1 crore. He expressed surprise that the move had come in despite assurances from Chief Minister against it.
Seventy-odd employees of the headquarters have been protesting for the last several months. According to them, if the GEDA was shifted to Gandhinagar, the very purpose of setting up the headquarters in Vadodara, which was centrally located, would be defeated. One of the other reasons for setting up the GEDA was to ensure that it could co-ordinate effectively with the GEB, they pointed out.
