CHANDIGARH, Nov 18: Punjab and Madhya Pradesh clinched the titles in the under-17 boys and girls section of basketball on the penultimate day of the 44th National School Games held at Sector 7 Sports Complex. Last year's third placed side, Punjab outplayed Delhi 64-56 while MP scored a 66-34 win over Maharashtra to retain the title in the girls group.In the Punjab-Delhi tie, both the teams were balanced and fought tooth and nail to win the trophy. Though Punjab took the lead, it was narrowed by Delhi's Vijender, who scored 24 points for the team. However, just before the break Punjab's skipper Prabhjot Singh netted two basket to put his team ahead (29-25).
In the second session, Delhi cagers failed to match the tempo set by Punjab players and gradually lost the grip over the contest.
Dharmender and Harsimran also got 20 and 10 points for the winners.
Iraj (14) and Mukund (9) scored for Delhi.
In the girls section, Poonam Singh of MP was the main architect of the team's win today. She sunk 42 points, which was the highest individual score in the meet, including the boys section. Her lay-up shots and drive-in kept the MP's scoreboard moving at a constant pace.
Alam Kriti and Seema also netted 8 points each for the winners.
Sneh Shree (12) Amrita (10) scored for the losers. Roller Nationals The 36th National Roller Skating Championships for sub-juniors, juniors and seniors will be held at Visakapatnam from December 13 to 18. More than 1000 skaters from 22 states are expected to take part in speek, hockey and artistic skating events.
Giving this information here today, Inder Pal Singh, Founder member of the Roller Skating Federation, said that the federation had introduced point to point speed races and elimination of 10,000 metres race for boys and 5000 metres for girls while long and short programme in free and fair events and new grouping in figure skating have been introduced.
On the basis of the performance of the skaters at Visakhapatnam, the Indian probables for the Asian meet in October next year in China would be selected.
SBP rout Gobind XI
State Bank of Patiala made mincemeat of Gobind XI, routing them by seven wickets in the Gursagar Cup cricket tournament here today.
Gobind XI were alout for 96 and the winners raced off to the winning target losing only three wickets.

Ruban guides DAV
Ruban Verma's fine knock of 92 runs enabled DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 to beat Bhavan Vidayala School, Sector 27 by 140 runs in the UT Inter-School cricket tournament (under-16) here today.
DAV School made 206 for 2 in 25 overs and then bundled out their rivals for a paltry 67.
