Hat-trick by Atish

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Nov 19: Sanjay Public School-44, S D Public School-32, Shivalik Public School-41 and Coaching Centre-17 won their respective matches on the opening day of the Chandigarh Junior football league (under-19) here at the Sector 17 Football Stadium today. The winners also pocketed four points each for their efforts.

Sanjay Public School owed it to Gaurav Negi's 15th-minute match-winner against Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School-22. S D Public School thrashed Government Senior Secondary School-15 7-0. Goals came through Jaideep Singh (fourth and 10th minutes), Sandeep Singh (15th and 25th minutes) Ankur Chopra (40th and 50th minutes) and Satinder Singh (46th minute).

Coaching Centre-17 beat Coaching Centre-23 3-1. Left-winder Atish's hat-trick (fourth, eighth and 10th minutes) was the turning point. Surprisingly, the Coaching Centre-23 were without a goalkeeper for the first ten minutes and those reversals dented their chances. They reduced the margin in the 60th minute when Raminder scored a goal but that was of no avail in the final outcome.

Shivalik Public School routed St Xavier's School-44 4-0 in the last league match of the day. Vinay Antil's two goals put the winners 2-0 up at half-time. Vikrant Rana (45th minute) and Niraj Malik (48th minute) completed the rout.

Athletic trials
Trials to select the Chandigarh side for participation in the Inter-State athletic meet (under-22) to be held at Calcutta on November 29 and 30, will be held on November 21 at the Sector 7 Sports Complex here. According to Milkha Singh, president Amateur Athletic Association, Chandigarh only bonafide residents of the city are eligible for the trials and the proof of the same should be brought along with.

Wrestling meet
The Chandigarh State Senior wrestling championship (Greeco Roman and Free Style) will be organised on December 1 at the Wrestling Coaching Centre, Sector 30 here.

The Chandigarh side for participation in the Senior National wresting championship, to be held at Nasik from December 20, will be selected after the meet.
