BANGALORE, Nov 25: Anita Kumaraswami, daughter-in-law of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, has bagged ``in auction'' the same petrol bunk that was taken away from her following Delhi High Court orders.Remember the Satish Sharma scandal that prompted the Delhi High Court to cancel the licence of more than a dozen petrol bunks, allotted `out of turn' by Petroleum Minister and Gandhi family crony Satish Sharma?
The petrol bunk at Padmanabhanagar, owned by Anita, was one of the `out of turn' allotments. Late last year, the bunk licence was seized.
However, the subsequent auction conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) produced high drama. To begin with, there was ``poor response'' from bidders, IOC officials claimed. A mere four bidders showed any interest and Anita was one of them. She made the highest bid of Rs 1.6 lakh and bagged the petrol bunk in her name again.
IOC Deputy General Manager J P Janakaraj told The Indian Express that all formalities were followed during the auction ofthe licence.
``During mid-October we gave advertisements in the newspapers and called for bids. Only eight persons took the application forms, of which only four turned up on the auction day last week.'' ``We had quoted minimum bid amount of Rs 1 lakh and Anita quoted Rs 1.6 lakh, which was the highest. Now the licence has been re-issued in her name,'' Janakaraj said.
Now, the petrol bunk is in full swing after it was closed for over a year. During its closure, the bunk was used by JD workers as an election campaign.
