New Delhi, Nov 25: Just when you thought the $84,000 Asia Cup was all about Indian tennis stars, the Uzbekistan-Korea semi-final turned on enough heat to make the holiday crowd stick on till the end of a long day. The Uzbeks made it into the final beating Korea 2-0 in two three-set affairs at the RK Khanna Stadium centre court here today. Earlier, fourth seeded Chinese Taipei fixed up a semi-final date with India with a surprisingly easy 2-1 win against Indonesia. It was not such a breeze for the Uzbeks, with both Vadim Kutsenko and Oleg Ogorodov dropping a set each en route to a place in Friday's final. Playing against Dong Hyun Kim, Kutsenko dropped the first set 1-6 to an opponent who was beating him at his own game. Kim just stayed at the baseline, fed off Kutsenko's pace and did nothing fancy. But Kutsenko kept his head and willed himself to a 5-2 lead in the second before running into trouble again. Kim narrowed the lead to 5-4 before Kutsenko wrapped up the second. The Uzbek then took the thirdwithout a fuss 6-1.
Ogorodov too played to a similar script against Lee, taking a roller-coaster first set 7-5 and then promptly let go in the second. Ogorodov spared himself the bother of the doubles rubber, closing out the third set 6-3.
