In a proposal to be taken up for discussion in the Standing Committee meeting on Saturday, the administrative wing has stated that the water meter repairing and reading needed a lot of manpower and money.

Instead, the VMC will now recover minimum user charges decided as and when. The proposal says that the ward office staff will survey the number of connections in each size.

As regards the persons staying in the buildings which do not have water connections, the VMC would recover water tax as decided by the General Board time and again.

In another item related to water supply system, the administrative wing has proposed to procure a loan of Rs 5 crore from Anonyana Sahakari Mandali Limited for setting up a filteration plant with a capacity of 50 million litre water per day at Nimeta. While, the plant is expected to cost more than Rs 7 crore, the rest will be met from various budgetary heads.

Also as a step towards making judicious use of water, the Corporation has proposed to do away with one inch connections which have been taken for domestic use but in reality are used for commercial purpose.

The proposal states that the system will come into force from January 1, 1999 and the existing connection holders will be given a time up to March 31 to convert their connections into commercial. It further states that if the connections are not converted, the VMC would disconnect the power supply. The proposal indicates that lot of money spent on providing treated water to the citizens could not be wasted for commercial purpose.

The administration has also proposed to purchase five jeeps on contract basis for octroi department supervisory staff. To be used for 16 hours daily, the jeeps will be hired at a cost of more than Rs 9 lakh.

The VMC has also decided to procure four pump sets to augment the capacity of the Gajrawadi sewage sewage treatment plant.
