SURAT, Nov 25: Grains, groceries and other goods were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a three-storey building in the Gopipura area of the city on Wednesday morning.Although no damage to life has been reported, property worth over Rs 15 lakh is stated to have been damaged in the fire. SMC fire brigade officials suspect that electrical short circuit could have sparked off the fire,Fire brigade personnel said the house-cum-godown of Sanjay Kanti Shah, of Shah Trading Company located near Subhash Chowk in Gopipura area caught fire around 11 in the morning. The fire broke out on the second floor, where grains had been stored and spread to the entire building.
Sanjay Shah told the fire brigade personnel that huge quantities of grains which included wheat, rice, bajra, tur dal and other pulses, along with washing powder packets and computers were burnt.
