CHANDIGARH, Nov 25: On the basis of a complaint of harassment from a woman, Inspector General of the Police R.P. Singh today ordered the removal of Inspector Om Prakash from his present posting as Station House Officer of the Manimajra police station.A senior police official said that according to the complaint, personnel of the Manimajra police station had slapped and harassed the woman at a check-post set up outside a discotheque in Manimajra on Saturday last. The woman, who is related to a senior judicial officer, had gone to the discotheque when police personnel allegedly ``misbehaved'' with her, he said.
``The naka was set up without orders of any senior official. They were noting down the vehicle numbers and names of the people in the cars which is an invasion on the citizens' privacy,'' the official said. He added that in doing so, the local police had overstepped the guidelines given to them.
The IGP has directed the City Superintendent of Police Baldev Singh to conduct a departmental enquiry into the matter. ``Till the enquiry is on, Om Prakash has been attached to the Police Lines while Inspector Mani Ram Kadian, in-charge of the Anti-Auto Theft Squad has been given additional charge as the SHO Mani Majra,'' R.P. Singh confirmed.
