CHANDIGARH, Nov 25: The two-day Chandigarh Carnival will have the ambience of a "Fun Express Train" to go with its theme, fun. The carnival will open on November 28 at Leisure Valley here.On the eve of the Carnival, costumed characters, students and other "merry markers" will take out a procession from the Leisure Valley to Sector 17 and back. The procession will feature a specially designed car by TV artist Jaspal Bhatti.
Addressing mediapersons here today, UT Home Secretary Anuradha Gupta said various artists including Jaspal Bhatti and Savita Bhatti, G.S. Channi, Prem Singh, Shiv Singh, Harleen and Nelon would be presenting shows and organising workshops.
Magic show, Sikkim dance, baazigar performance, puppet show, biscope, folk songs and singing events will be held. "These are the events kids in City are not really exposed to, and are dying out," Gupta said. "In fact, the Carnival was conceived keeping in view the need for hosting cultural events which maintain ties with the social and cultural traditions of the people in the region and at the same time help establish links with artists,"she said.
The Home Secretary said that certain City artists have volunteered to organise workshops in the fields of theatre and acting, poetry, photography, videography, cartoon-making and sculpturing. A food festival has also been planned.
A masterpice by Rock Garden architect Nek Chand would be another highlight of the carnival, for which local young talent had already a created a theme park.
